The Pat on Sports: Why Vince?

Anybody who knows me knows that there is no bigger wrestling fan out there than me. I have followed it through the ups and downs of the wrestling business. I have watched promotions come and go. Through it all WWF/WWE has been a constant.
Sadly that also means I am stuck watching some of Vince McMahon’s worst ideas. I seriously wonder if he thinks that is what wrestling fans want to see.
He has completely destroyed the essence of ECW. The once hardcore promotion is now just Raw light. There shouldn’t be “Extreme Matches” on ECW. They should all be extreme. Wrestlers like Test and Bobby Lashley have no place in ECW. Why not move Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, or any other star that could easily wrestle the ECW style there and let Test or Lashley have their spot on one of the other two shows? Why not actually push Tommy Dreamer or the Sandman? I don’t watch ECW to watch the guys I like get buried every week. I am afraid the ECW experiment is on life support and will be dead and buried by next year.
Raw is getting worse too. It is actually just becoming background noise for me on Monday nights. If it weren’t for Flair and DX I probably wouldn’t even care if we watched it or not. I do like a lot of Raw’s talent but I feel they are being horribly misused. I am also sick of Cena as champ. I like him as a wrestler but I think there are probably four or five people I would rather see in the main event than him.
The women’s division, also based on Raw, is a joke too. Irony is that women and wrestling are two of my favorite things in the world. However, combined they leave a bad taste in my mouth. They have a few good women’s wrestlers, but there are some that I am a better wrestler than. It makes me want to revisit my days as SECW Women’s Champion (long story but if you ask me I might just tell you) and go make some fat WWE cash. Trish and Lita’s retirements spell volumes about this division. Do you really think Trish would have considered doing that ridiculous reality show she is doing now if wrestling was a viable option?
The worst offense came Monday night. I had to sit through a match between a fake Donald trump and a fake Rosie O’Donnell. This feud is horrible in real life and it is even worse when I see Vince out there laughing his maniacal laugh while he makes his fans suffer through this tripe. I felt worse for the live fans that didn’t even have the option of changing the channel. At least they countered with a loud and audible on TV chant of, “TNA, TNA, TNA.” Hopefully all of those fans will tune into TNA on Thursdays.
For those of you who don’t know TNA is a great alterative to WWE. It features stars such as Sting, Kurt Angle, and many others you might recognize if you were a fan of the real ECW and WCW. It also has several refugees from WWE. I highly recommend you check them out.
