Owls top Rams

The LaFollette Middle School Owls basketball teams gained a pair of large wins over the Oak Ridge Robertsville Rams.
The Lady Owls took a come from behind victory over the Lady Rams by a score of 28-26. The Lady Owls started out strong in the first quarter behind the play of Campbell Reynolds and Taylor Bailey. Reynolds had four points and Bailey added three. At the end of one period of play the Lady Owls led 11-6. In the second quarter Kristen Chapman was the leading scorer for the Lady Owls with four points. At the half the Lady Owls clung to a 17-14 lead.
The Lady Rams took the lead in the third quarter. Reynolds had the only two points that the Lady Owls were able to muster in the period and the Lady Rams led 24-19 going into the final quarter. Chapman ended the game with some fourth quarter heroics. She had eight points in the quarter. She tied the game at 26-26 with 41 seconds remaining and with four ticks remaining on the clock she was able to drop a pair of free throws into the basket for the games final margin of victory.
Chapman led the Lady Owls in scoring with 14 points. She also had 11 rebounds and a blocked shot. Reynolds was the second leading scorer for the Lady Owls with six points; she also added eight rebounds and a pair of steals. Jessica Palmer had six points for the Lady Rams to lead them in scoring.
The Owls were also successful in their campaign against the Robertsville Rams as they sent them back to Oak Ridge after beating them 51-43. The first quarter saw the teams battle to a 13-13 tie. Lucas Nelson had five points in the quarter and Big Luke Farnum added four points. The Owls were able to go into the half time break leading 23-22 behind Farnum’s eight second quarter points.
The Owls took the lead in the third period. Chad Wagers came alive for the Owls and put six points on the scoreboard. Jeremy Blankenship put four points up for the Owls in this period. The final quarter saw Nelson lead all Owls with five points.
Farnum lived up to his big man moniker in the game as he led all scorers with 14 points, he also had a game high 15 rebounds. Nelson had 13 points and was the team’s second leading scorer. Blankenship added nine rebounds and Garrett Reese had a pair of steals for the Owls. Shink Jackson led the Rams with 13 points.
