Eagles win double overtime thriller

Fans who came to see the Eagles play Thursday night did not leave disappointed. They were treated to a thrilling come from behind, double overtime victory. The Eagles left the Jim and Linda Agee Gymnasium winners by the score of 52-49 over the Hawks of Clinton.
Things started out slow for the Eagles. Tanner Torres led the blue and gold clad cagers in the game’s first quarter with three points. The Hawks scored eight points in the first quarter and were up 8-7 going into the second. The second quarter was the Cody Malicoat show for the Eagles as he put eight of their ten second quarter points on the board. The Hawks also had a big quarter and led 17-21 going into the half.
The Hawks began to pull away from the Eagles after the break with ten third quarter points. Tanner Torres led the Eagles in scoring in the third frame with three points. The Eagles trailed by a score of 31-22 as the final quarter of regulation began. Lance Webber provided some late game heroics as he was the leading scorer in the fourth with five points, including a trey with less than a minute to go that tied the game at 39-all. The buzzer sounded and after a brief pause overtime began.
The first overtime saw Clinton pull ahead again, fortune smile on the Eagles as sixth grader Ethan Simpson was able to tie the game again at 44-all with 15.2 seconds remaining in the OT period. The Eagles were able to pull away in the second overtime and led at the sound of the final buzzer. Malicoat led the overtime frames in scoring with seven points.

Lady Eagles Clip wings of Lady Hawks

The Lady Eagles of Jacksboro Middle School took a close victory from the Clinton Lady Hawks Thursday night. The Lady Eagles won 30-26 in a close battle.
The first quarter saw Courtney Morris take charge for the Lady Eagles as she scored five of their six points in the quarter. Clinton managed to put five points on the board to make it 6-5 in favor of the Lady Eagles. The second quarter saw more offensive action from both teams. Amber Young put four points on the board and Emily Griffith added three. Clinton still managed to keep things close and the Lady Eagles headed into the locker room at halftime holding a 16-14 lead.
The third quarter was a defensive struggle that saw Maria Green (two points) and Amber Young (one point) score the only Lady Eagle points in the quarter. The Lady Eagles led 19-16 going into the games final quarter. Courtney Morris stepped back into the scoring position in the final frame as she led the Lady Eagles with seven points; Emily Griffith added three as the Lady Eagles cruised to a victory.
Courtney Morris was the game’s leading scorer with 11 points. Megan Cantrell led the Lady Hawks with ten points.
